Our Mission

We are committed to nurturing education, fostering outreach, and enhancing academic excellence at the nineteen historically black colleges and universities. Through our impactful programs, we strive to empower these universities to reach new heights and bring about positive change in communities.

Vision

We envision a future where historically black colleges and universities pioneer solutions in advancement and positive change, tackling the economic, social, and environmental challenges of our time. Our goal is to ensure these universities and their communities flourish and adapt in an ever-evolving world.

The 1890 Universities Foundation knows that the challenges our universities and their communities face are complex, and no single solution will meet every need. That’s why we work together with our stakeholders and champions to create real, lasting change. We are dedicated to supporting and elevating our 19 historically black colleges and universities by fostering community health & wellness, protecting our environment, enriching our cultural experiences, and breaking down barriers to opportunity. In other words, we will be here to join the dots, open doors, and build bridges—making sure that every voice is heard and everyone gets the opportunity to flourish.

History & Impact

A Legacy of Support and Achievement

Since our founding in December 2016, the 1890 Universities Foundation has been dedicated to uniting and strengthening the impact of the 1890 land-grant universities. As a 501(c)3 charitable organization, we focus on securing and distributing resources and developing strategic alliances that broaden access and amplify results of these universities. Our initiatives have catalyzed improvements in education, community engagement, and research, fostering long-term growth on the partner communities.
