WASHINGTON, D.C. — The 1890 Universities Foundation and Developing Veterinary Medicine Careers(DVMC) today announced the ten students selected for the 2026 DVMC Scholarship Cohort, continuing that invests in students preparing to become the next generation of veterinary professionals.
For 136 years, the 1890 land-grant universities have prepared veterinarians, scientists, agricultural professionals, and researchers who serve communities across the nation. The 2026 DVMC Scholars carry that legacy forward. They are building the knowledge, experience, and professional relationships they will use to care for animals, strengthen communities, and contribute to the future of veterinary medicine.
Through the DVMC Scholarship Program, each scholar may receive up to $10,000 per year for as many as two years of undergraduate study and up to $15,000 per year while enrolled in veterinary school, for a maximum award of $80,000 per student.
Through DVMC, scholars join a broader veterinary community and build relationships with professionals, mentors, and peers across the field. They gain career guidance, strengthen their skills, and explore the many paths available within veterinary medicine.
2026 DVMC Scholars
“These scholars reflect what our 1890 universities have done for generations: prepare talented students to serve, lead, and contribute in fields that matter to this country. They have already chosen veterinary medicine and begun building the knowledge and experience their careers will require. Through thispartnership, we are investing in that momentum and in the contributions they will make to animalhealth, agriculture and communities across the nation.”— Dr. Felecia Nave, President and CEO, 1890Universities Foundation
“I want each of these scholars to know that they belong in veterinary medicine and that there is a community ready to support them as they build their careers. So many of us were encouraged along the way by mentors, professors and professionals who reminded us of what was possible. Through this partnership, we have the opportunity to offer that same encouragement, connection, and investment to the next generation of veterinary professionals.”— Dr. Beverly Miller, Executive Director, Developing Veterinary Medicine Careers (DVMC)
The DVMC Scholarship Program is administered in partnership with the 1890 Universities Foundation, which connects applicants at the 19 historically Black land-grant universities to the opportunity and manages the application process on DVMC's behalf.
